In Bengali, the word 'Arunoday' means sunrise. Arunoday, dedicated to the Rising Sun, Jesus, is the pre-novitiate of the Calcutta Province of the Society of Jesus. The house is situated at Malancha, on Taki Road, near Barasat, about 30 kms from Kolkata.

Picnic from St Lawrence's School

The borders and candidates from St Lawrence’s School, Kolkata, came for a day’s outing with Frs Kurian and Noel and Sch Markus. In the basket ball match, the Jesuit team, comprising mostly of the pre-novices, beat the borders, thanks to the excellent coaching by Sch Roshan. It was a sight to see Fr Kurian playing for the Jesuit team and even scoring some points. Unfortunately we could not give him a pair of short-pants.
The boys surely had a lot of fun.

New Year Celebration

The New Year was welcomed with gusto at Arunoday with a midnight celebration of the Eucharist with the communities around. Though it was very cold, the excitement was not less and we had a full scale celebration, complete with the burning of the old man of 2007 and a solemn dance.
The thanksgiving service began at 10 PM on Dec 31. It was followed by the Eucharistic celebration which went on till midnight. Then with cups of coffee and pieces of cake, we gathered outside to bid farewell to 2007 and welcome the New Year.
Christmas – New Year get-together was on the evening of Jan 1. It was a very cheerful evening with food and dance and gifts.
